It’s happening again. I’m pretty sure I installed 18.4 on Monday when it came out, but certainly I didn’t wait until last night.

But it says it’s still finishing an update, and during my sleeping hours, it was Mail that was using 90% of the energy, so I’m hoping that means everything is indexed and that search will now be useful.

Part of the issue is my 5W qi charger can’t keep up. I ordered a 15W MagSafe charger so hopefully this won’t be an issue soon.

A screen shot of my battery settings panel in my iPhone, showing declining charge while on the charger overnight due to prodigious background activity. Additionally, there is a notice saying an update is still completing.

TIL: an exhausted #cmos #battery can cause #Linux to behave strangely after a hard #shutdown (caused by a #UPS being incorrectly turned off) - it uses the BIOS time to check the filesystem block timestamps, and as it had gone back to 2012 the OS thinks the filesystem time is in the future! (At least the hard drive on this server isn't on the way out yet which is what I had feared, but this required an emergency visit to the office as it is the main #VOIP #PBX) #sysadmin

Lithium is one of the big metals in demand because of its use in batteries. But, there is constant improvement with alternatives.
An example is sodium batteries which show promise for several applications where they could be used instead of lithium (and potentially reduce the demand for lithium). The article mentions some other battery technologies too - but getting away from lithium and rare earth metals helps a lot of countries.
