ZW Gather Dress by Birgitta Helmersson.

For something so simple I sure did take my time with it! I think I finished sewing at the end of last year (it's already on the 2024 makes post...) but did not make the buttonholes or add the buttons until the last few weeks.

Made from a thrifted duvet cover and is more of a wearable toile. For the next one I want to get a narrower width, longer top and not so low cut neckline.

The making itself was fairly painless, especially since I used Birgitta's tutorials on her blog to sew some of the trickier bits. Opted out of using the offcuts for reinforcement as that felt like unnecessary waff. I've already plans to make a blouse version of this too!

Feeling brave today and wearing this to work to see how it works in the day-to-day.

this was my first experiment to use up tiny fabric scraps. i stuck the pieces together with water soluble fabric glue then sewed a grid over the fabric to secure, before washing off the glue. it’s since survived several wears and washes!

the process was tedious but on the upside it didn’t require a base fabric to sew on to. i would like to try other methods in future, could a flour paste replace the synthetic glue?

Remill

Remill is a service in which you can send any 100% cotton clothing from any brand, excluding denim and underwear, and receive credit to spend at Rapanui Clothing in return.

100 billion garments are produced every year with less than 1% being remade into new clothing. Remill are driven to change that.

How it works: Worn out products are sent back. The recovered organic material is processed and spun into new organic yarn. Brand new items are created.

remillfibreRemill FibreSend your worn out Teemill clothing back to us and we'll turn it into new products. It's called circular fashion and it's the future, remade.

another experiment using tiny fabric scraps, this time i pressed them onto iron-on interfacing, then sewed a 1cm grid over to secure.

it was also the first time i used a bias binding foot, i’m amazed by how many clever sewing machine feet there are out there! i didn’t do a good job with the binding but hope it’ll get better with practice :p

this was a mat for our portable standing desk to make it more sound proof.
