There’s no doubt that #Trump, in just 6 weeks, has compiled a most unusual list of accomplishments to boast about—much of it a result of allowing the world’s richest man to take a chainsaw to the federal govt, cutting hundreds of thousands of federal jobs & unilaterally shutting down federal programs & contracts worth billions of dollars in defiance of #Congress.

But it was also familiar, #Trump’s by-now-standard mix of braggadocio & self-pity, partisan bile & patently absurd lies. It turns out that even the most #unhinged of Presidential speeches can seem kind of boring if it goes on long enough.

Six weeks & two days after returning to the Oval Office, Donald #Trump headed back to the Capitol, the site of his very recent swearing-in ceremony, to declare victory—again & again & again. Over Joe #Biden. Evil foreign gangs. #Canada. In his address to a joint session of #Congress on Tues night, Trump claimed that he had done more in his first wild weeks back in power, with his “swift & unrelenting action,” than any President ever, including George Washington.

The US doesn’t have a “vote of no confidence” option available in parliamentary democracies.

My alarm and dismay about Trump’s unfitness for office isn’t concentrated around a single, discrete policy decision.

It’s about his overall pattern of behavior.

What did Donald #Trump say over the phone to Mette Frederiksen, the Danish prime minister, on Wednesday? I don’t know which precise words he used, but I witnessed their impact. I arrived in Copenhagen the day after the call—the subject, of course, was the future of #Greenland, which #Denmark owns & which Trump wants—& discovered that appointments I had w/Danish politicians were suddenly in danger of being canceled.

#Trump has now named some of his defense attorneys in the case to be top officials at the #DOJ that investigated him. If Americans hadn’t already gotten so used to this sort of thing over the past decade, it would be beyond belief.

The indictment describes what must be the stupidest #crimes imaginable, & he totally got away with them.

The temptation might be to write this matter off as a lesser concern, akin to the byzantine case that branded #Trump a felon in NY. Apologists have noted that other officials, including Joe Biden, also mishandled #ClassifiedDocuments. Resist the siren call of these rationalizations.
