Trivial Einstein
Once again, Social Security is not a bank. It's not that I don't think people deserve to get what they worked for, but I think people deserve to get social security regardless of whether they've worked a day in their lives. Social Security being dismantled will not result in seniors "not getting their hard-earned money," because their money has already been paid to people who were getting social security when the current crop of seniors was working.

When we view Social Security as a bank, we play into the hands of people who only want "deserving" people to get Social Security. That's not at all how it works, and that's not how it should work. Social Security is a scheme whereby the government gives financial security to people who don't work. Everything else is just an implementation detail.

Yes, I know that one's work history is taken into account. Yes, I know that currently the money is raised via a special tax. But those things could change fairly easily, and suddenly you've got a UBI.

By viewing Social Security as a fund into which you pay, to later withdraw your funds, you allow the framing that Social Security can ever go bankrupt. It can't. The government can (and it seems likely will) stop paying it out, but that's a choice, not a bitter necessity. You also allow privatization: if Social Security is an investment, why not invest it privately in the stock market or something? But it isn't. It's a budget line item. I am aware that there is a Social Security (which I keep having to type out because the acronym is unfortunate) slush fund, but that's an implementation detail.

You won't get what you paid into Social Security back. It's gone. It got paid to your grandparents, most likely. But imagine if the safety of society, a kind of net of some kind, was given a bunch of money through the government taxing billionaires. It would certainly improve the social security of everyone. So why not give some of that money to everyone every month? And what if we just did that?

Yeah, it'll never happen, right?

#subtoot

Trivial Einstein
Holy shit, we're still arguing about whether or not fashy dipshits are poorly informed? My fucking goddess, they had four years to learn precisely what Trump is about and *THEY LIKE WHAT THEY SEE!*

You can't educate your way out of fascism. This isn't up for debate. You go on and on about how poor information education this and low-information voters that, you bang on about how all fashy dipshits are poor ignorant slobs, and then you turn around and with the same mouth you say, "You can't teach empathy." How in crikey fuck do you square that circle?

The problem isn't that people don't know. The problem is that people don't feel. If I might be allowed to be pithy.

#subtoot #SubtootingAMetricFucktonOfPeople

Trivial Einstein
When they figure out a way to make their "AI" convincingly fake giving you a hug and telling you you're awesome when you're down, what will your excuse be then? Stop acting like the problem about "AI" is that it isn't human. #subtoot

Trivial Einstein
I hate to break it to you but Hitler 1.0 wasn't slick or devious either. He pretty much just tweeted it out. No one thought he was being serious either. timberwraith
But the u.s. has, in reality, always been a nazi bar. The country just used different branding than "nazis R u.s." and white people thought the u.s. was a heroic and good country.

Except it never was. That was a story we told ourselves. The trail of dead bodies, scorched countries, and broken human lives across the centuries tell a different story.

#Subtoot

Trivial Einstein
It's not a stupid decision if the consequences of the decision are what the person making it desired. So, for instance, it's not a stupid software decision to rewrite the SSA database using "AI" because the people making that decision don't actually want SSA to function at all. Please stop taking fashy dipshits at their word, liberals. #subtoot

[edit: SSA not SSI]

Trivial Einstein
I know you'd like to believe that capitalism is the ur-demon, but it doesn't rely on bigotry to exist any more than bigotry relies on capitalism to exist. Intersectionality, sure, but if we manage to defeat capitalism it won't stop racism, sexism, or other bigotries, and vice versa. Class warfare being the ultimate battle is a hell of a drug for Marxists, I know, but come on. #subtoot
