I needed a break to get out of art block and this trend was the perfect distraction. I’ve loved seeing everyone’s takes on this trend, they’re all so different and lovely. AI will never make something half as original.

I've seen a lot of folks sharing #StarterPack images lately, so I thought I'd put my own spin on it by using one of my #SidewalkFriends sketches as the starting point. #StarterPackNoAI

There is also an iphone, a coffee, and an Apple pencil included as extras. Text on the top of the package says "#SidewalkFriends", which is the name of a series of drawings by me (Doctor Popular). The figure is also supposed to resemble me and my art tools.

A photo of a metal pole sticking up from the sidewalk. There is a section of green paint on the pole that isn't very interesting other than the shape of the paint, which was used as inspiration for the Sidewalk Friends sketch.

I have to interrupt our travel report from South America for a moment with a current post.

Very, very similar pictures are popping up everywhere at the moment, showing a person as a small plastic action figure, complete with various accessories originally packed in a sales package. These images are usually all generated with AI. Except for a small independent trend where artists make their own versions of their action figures; often drawn, but also folded from paper, crocheted or modelled from plasticine.

Here is my take on this phenomenon:
The Garstl action figure. 100% AI-free. Completely classic, manual image retouching.

Jumped on the “Starter pack” train and created my own.
