Da Linux beardude<p>I'm now gonna try Arch Linux with inits I haven't tried/not yet familiar. I'm curious how it'll all go, lol.</p><p>I'm open for any suggestions on what inits to try other than OpenRC, runit, dinit, s6, and sysvinit cos I've already done those, but I'm also open to hear your thoughts and if I should also try them on Arch as well.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/arch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>arch</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/archlinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>archlinux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/busybox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>busybox</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/openrc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>openrc</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/runit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>runit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/dinit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>dinit</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a>-rc <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/sysvinit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sysvinit</span></a></p>
Da Linux beardude<p>Ok. 2 seconds boot time. This is kinda close to <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/templeos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>templeos</span></a> territory.</p><p>No amount of modern <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> debloating will get you this close. A simple startx will bring me <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/xfce" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xfce</span></a> on and get it using like a regular computer. I think Windows XP is the only one that can compete to this kind of boot time.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/artixlinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artixlinux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/artix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artix</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows11" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows11</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows10" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows10</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows8" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows8</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows7" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows7</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windowsvista" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windowsvista</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windowsxp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windowsxp</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windowsme" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windowsme</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows95" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows95</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/windows98" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows98</span></a></p>

Da Linux beardude<p>So for <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/artix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artix</span></a> with s6 init, I have to install the service with an -s6 prefix, do touch /etc/s6/adminsv/default/contents.d/&lt;service_name&gt; then s6-db-reload to enable a service. To temporarily start/stop a service, I just do s6-rc -u/-d change &lt;service_name&gt;. Alright, alright. Gotcha</p><p>To disable the service, just remove the touched file. Alright, gotcha, bear. Thansk</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/artixlinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artixlinux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a>-rc <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a></p>
Andy<p>I've been running <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/artix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>artix</span></a> for a while, and I feel like I need to give <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/void" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>void</span></a> another try.</p><p>The thing that's really holding me back is the AUR. I realize void has xbps-src, so it wouldn't be the end of the world. </p><p>Setting dracut to build a UKI with custom boot keys will be new too. Plus I want to see if I can hack it to init with s6 instead of runit 😈 </p><p>In any case, if anyone has gone from Arch or Artix to Void, tips are certainly welcome. <br><a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/VoidLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VoidLinux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/xbps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>xbps</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ArtixLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArtixLinux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/ArchLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArchLinux</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/AUR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AUR</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/runit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>runit</span></a> <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/s6" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>s6</span></a></p>
Da Linux beardude<p>After I finish the game on stream, I'll probably go back to Linux stuffs if I'm not in the mood to sleep the whole day off.
