The path to ascend the Rwenzori runs past Lake Bujuku, one of several lakes partly formed and replenished by glacial meltwater. The mountain range is the highest and most permanent source of the River Nile, with a water catchment relied upon by 5 million people, including the Bakonzo.

Speaking of maps, I am once again tracing the Connecticut River to its source lake(s). I keep thinking maybe a bike packing trip following it north until the end, er, start, which is the 4th Connecticut Lake (not the first, thus the end/start confusion). Along the way there’s this weird little jag of Vermont into New Hampshire, which must have an interesting back story.

conjunction of VT (lower left), NH (right) and Canada (upper left) where NH/VT continue being separated by the Connecticut until it reaches the same latitude of Canada’s border. Also, the NH/Canada border is a super squiggly northward line that appears to have once followed a river which of course keeps changing course.

The start of the Connecticut river is in a little gallbladder of a pond just below Canadian border (you have to hike to it, maybe even crossing into Canada) that then feeds into a much larger 3rd Connecticut lake

Standing on the pedestrian crossing on the Acosta Bridge, over the Saint Johns River, facing downtown Jacksonville, I was convinced that this bracket structure, part of the bridge, provided an interesting perspective of the sunrise skyline.
First attempted this shot a few months prior ... here, my second attempt doesn't quite capture the feeling I was looking for ... will try again on my next bridge obsession adventure.

A very purple-hued image, tinted from the colors of an early rising sun.

A frozen river is covered in snow, with the thin outline of city buildings visible across the far distance. A few open spots in the ice can be seen underneath a curved bridge. The bridge is held up by thick cement supports and very gently highlighted with regular small lights. It curves and swoops gracefully from the right side, and disappears into the city behind it. The bridge looks very large compared to the city, giving the illusion that it is incredibly long (it isn't).

There are several theories of how #Yellowstone got its name. When I first saw these cliffs along the Yellowstone River at the confluence of Tower Creek, I was convinced that they were the yellow stones that gave the river its name.
