The removal of the four dams on the Klamath represents the first real attempt at the kind of river #restoration that #Indigenous nations and environmentalists have long demanded.

It is the result of an improbable campaign that spanned close to half a century, roped in thousands of people, and came within an inch of collapse several times.

Interviews reveal a collaborative achievement with few clear parallels in contemporary activism.

Grist · How the Klamath Dams Came DownBy Anita Hofschneider

Speaking of maps, I am once again tracing the Connecticut River to its source lake(s). I keep thinking maybe a bike packing trip following it north until the end, er, start, which is the 4th Connecticut Lake (not the first, thus the end/start confusion). Along the way there’s this weird little jag of Vermont into New Hampshire, which must have an interesting back story.

Waves near Clam Beach County Park today. (Overall a very interesting weekend: temperatures in the mid-60s, bear prints in the coastal area of Redwood National and State Parks.)
