Good Records co-founder Chris Penn dies at 54 ⏺️ 💿 🎶

Penn had suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury after a fall at his Dallas store.

“Can you imagine Chris’s heaven? I hope it’s filled with Mexican food, pinball machines and a movie theater playing all the classics.”

SHUDDER TO THINK
Music From The Motion Picture First Love, Last Rites
2025 U.S. RSD Ltd. Ed. pressing

I only bought two #recordstoreday titles this year, and both were by Shudder To Think, one of my most cherished bands.

This is the first time that this great soundtrack has been on #vinyl , & I’m still very surprised by how few people know it.
Most of these songs feature the band fronted by guest singers, including Jeff Buckley, John Doe, Billy Corgan, & more.

Happy #RecordStoreDay for those that celebrate. We had a family road trip to New Hampshire this morning. In line by 4:30a. It was snowing pretty hard while we were waiting. Fortunately, this strip mall has a covered sidewalk, so at least we were dry. Back home by 11a after a breakfast stop and been spinning records all afternoon.

This is one of the inner sleeves for Passengers - Original Soundtracks 1. So much more fun and pleasing than my old CD version.

My Record Store Day haul. The record I wanted most ("Top Secret!" soundtrack) was not available by the time I got in but I got everything else on my list. 🙂

Mulligan Meets Monk (1957)
Black Sabbath: The Eternal Idol (1987)
Motörhead: The Löst Tapes Vol. 6 (Live in Berlin) (2024)
Dokken: Beast From The East (1988)
Judas Priest: Live In Atlanta ‘82 (2025)
Mötley Crüe: Smokin’ In The Boys Room/Home Sweet Home (1985)

Went out and patronized my local record stores for #RecordStoreDay today (not that I need the excuse). I did manage to find the one exclusive-to-RSD disc I was looking for (that Hindu Love Gods LP). Two I had hoped to spot (a Throwing Muses show recorded in '92 at Club Babyhead and Harvey Danger's "King James Version" anniversary release) no one got copies of, but since they're just premiering today I'll probably find them eventually. Plus, good cheap stuff in the used bins as always.
