AoiObscure Games 12:<br> <br> I know I have talked about Splatterhouse but hear me out. Because this one is quite interesting. <br> <br> Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti is released for NES, exclusive to Japan. <br> <br> The gameplay is as always high quality. Expected from Splatterhouse series. Platforming is quite enjoyable too. The combat harmonizes with the movement rather effortlessly, which is something that I deeply appreciated while playing the game.<br> <br> What makes this game unique is that it is a parody of Splatterhouse. Parody platformers were flourished in NES and SNES era. As a result the game embraces much more comedic tone compared to the source material. I believe such cultural shift gives game its identity, and diverges from everything else.<br> <br> As a parody it references quite a bit of pop-cultural references, and they fit the atmosphere of the game quite well. I will not expose the references since it can spoil the experience but trust me they will make you smile. <br> <br> You should give this game a chance. As always it is always nice to share and learn about such titles. Games that are revived thanks to the fan translations. I have discovered this game thanks to the Splatterhouse community by large and the fan translation enabled me to experience it.<br> <br> Also, it is available in Namco Museum Archives Vol. 1. <br> <br> Definitely worth the effort!<br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/gaming?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gaming</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/videogames?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#videogames</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/retro?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#retro</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/obscuregames?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#obscuregames</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/splatterhouse?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#splatterhouse</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/NES?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#NES</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/Famicom?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Famicom</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/parody?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#parody</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/platformer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#platformer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/parodyplatformer?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#parodyplatformer</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/splatterhousewanpakugraffiti?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#splatterhousewanpakugraffiti</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/popculture?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#popculture</a>

AoiObscure Game(s) 8:<br> <br> Deep Blue is a side scroller released for Turbo Grafx-16 in 1989. <br> <br> It is one of the most atmospheric side scroller you can play. The ship you use does not have a health bar, and you just float in the sea while trying to survive. So Deep Blue is more about survival than being a bullet hell shooter even though the game clearly harken back the aforementioned genre.<br> <br> The graphics are great. It uses all the power of the Turbo Grafx-16. And such high quality contributes to the eerie atmosphere of the game.<br> <br> If this game released in the 2000s it would have received much more praise. <br> <br> I think that is the joy of discovering games, looking for that hidden gem and Deep Blue is one them, I needed to share. <br> <br> Definitely deserves your time and attention! <br> <br> Look at that cover art. It is mysterious and eerie. Waiting for you to dive the inner parts of the ocean. Also, it is quite expressive too, the color palette compliments the eerie atmosphere while without being stale.<br> <br> Collecting Turbo Grafx-16 is a great hassle, but I would like to get into it just because the console had such experimental titles! <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/japan?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#japan</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/gaming?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gaming</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/retro?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#retro</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/obscuregames?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#obscuregames</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/videogames?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#videogames</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/games?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#games</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/deepblue?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#deepblue</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/shooter?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#shooter</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/atmospheric?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#atmospheric</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/turbografx16?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#turbografx16</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/retrogaming?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#retrogaming</a>
AoiObscure Game(s) 4:<br> <br> Can we consider Lufia, an obscure game? When we compare it to the likes of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest the answer is yes. Maybe underappreciated is a better descriptor here.<br> <br> What makes this turn based SNES turn based RPG is that it feels quite fast. The battle transition, from hub world to the battle screen is quite effortless. That is how it gets closer to an action RPG. It feels amazing to play.<br> <br> The pixel art for it is clean, beautiful, and vibrant. Color palette of it consists of wide range of colors. And the SNES’ strong hardware makes them pop up.<br> <br> Lufia feels special, its soundtrack absorbs you, and never lets you go. You appreciate the details of the game, every piece of stores, inns, and houses masterfully placed to the towns and the hub world by large.<br> <br> I found Lufia randomly, when I was browsing throughout the internet. The western cover art did not capture my attention at all, but after I looked at how it actually manifests itself, I was convinced. Yeah, I should play this, and I am glad that I made such a decision. <br> <br> It is such a shame that the series have not released to the modern consoles. Why not give it a Grandia I and II treatment, another series I love. <br> <br> You should definitely check out if you are looking for an immersive turn based RPG! <br> <br> Fun fact it is known Estpolis in Japan. Estpolis sounds nice too. <br> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/gaming?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#gaming</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/rpgs?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rpgs</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/rpg?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rpg</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/snes?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#snes</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/japan?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#japan</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/japanese?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#japanese</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/supernintendo?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#supernintendo</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/retrogaming?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#retrogaming</a> <br> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/rpg?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#rpg</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/obscuregames?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#obscuregames</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/hiddengems?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#hiddengems</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/lufia?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lufia</a> <a href="https://pixelfed.de/discover/tags/estpolis?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#estpolis</a>
