We had an emergency last night while cooking with our induction hob, when our battery box nearly caught fire as the interlink cables' connectors overheated and melted their insulation and burned into the tops of a couple of the batteries (not through to the inside though). I disconnected the batteries before the nasty smoke could turn to outright flames.

We finished our cooking on a camp fire.

We now have some new copper welding cable lugs on the 2AWG cables and power is back on.

We need some #Mutualaid to keep us out of overdraft trouble.

So today is not going entirely to plan.
The set of additional #solarpanels I connected up refuse to give us juice. I tried to trace the fault and got jack shit info because my cheap ass 19 year old #multimeter is (confirmed by many tests now) not working any more. Its fuse is fine too, as is its #battery. It just displays zeros.
So add to the list of unexpected expenses and delays one new multimeter...

#mutualaid is our lifeline to #selfsufficiency so we can help others. Can you help us out with our expenses for...?

Multimeter: $7-8 at Harbor Freight
Crimp connectors: $?
Tyres: ~$1200 (Vulpibus)
Refilling fuel: ~$100
Refilling my overdraft: ~$500
Refilling my other overdraft: ~$250

I'm just learning that the #Baltic electric grid (#Lithuania, #Latvia and #Estonia) have cut their connections from #Russia and are now autonomously creating their own power. In the next couple of days, they'll be running some disaster simulations before synchronising with the European grid.

This sounds like an absolutely amazing project to be involved in, and for any geeks into #electrical generation / distribution, you can watch the grid frequency and progress here: baltic-grid.sympower.net/

Having dismantled (and partly reassembled) my 19" rack, I noticed that all the parts are painted, which presumably means they're not electrically connected to each other. My understanding of #NZ #electrical rules is that exposed metal must be earthed. Perhaps painted means not exposed, but I'm not sure.

A brief intro.
