🌐 Beyond Bluesky: The Rise of Decentralized Social Apps

The AT Protocol (ATProto), the open foundation behind Bluesky, is becoming a launchpad for next-gen social apps.

Some standout innovations:
・Flashes: A photo/video-sharing platform reminiscent of classic Instagram
・Spark: A video-first app with livestreaming on the way
・Streamplace: Livestreaming built with cryptographic creator protections
・Graze: Build, customize, and monetize your own social feeds

This signals a shift toward user-owned, open social ecosystems—a strong contrast to walled-garden platforms. Developers, creators, and users alike are embracing interoperability, privacy, and creative freedom.

Perhaps it's generally better not to become further dependent on services that are based in the USA... who knows what might come. I should perhaps take this as an opportunity to use my Mastodon account instead of #bluesky (Especially since I never really felt comfortable there and my reach has meanwhile become simply ridiculous)

@Em0nM4stodon The problem with that, if you are using the official Web client, is you then see all the posts you boosted again in your timeline. So if you boost often, your Home timeline gets cluttered with all the messages you have not only already read, but also boosted.

I think this is one of the big reasons most users don't boost much, and indeed I feel like it may be a reason some people leave #Mastodon entirely and go to #Bluesky or a similar platform.

I like Mastodon a lot but I don't ever want to have to read any post more than once. Keep shoving the same post in my face and you not only waste my time, you also make me start to really dislike your platform. But apparently the Mastodon developers don't give a flying fig.

I would put this near the top of the list of "reasons people stop using Mastodon" (the other big one is that the web-based clients can't seem to remember where you left off reading the timeline if you accidentally close the browser or need to reboot your system). And even the alternative web-based clients, such as Elk and Phanpy, don't address these issues.
