Reading Recluse<p>📘 "Mrs. Caliban" by Rachel Ingalls</p><p>Some days you laugh.<br>Some days you cry.<br>Some days you start an affair with an escaped frog man because your husband has been avoiding you since the miscarriage and domestic life wasn't all that you wished for it to be, right? ...Right?</p><p>Mrs. Caliban was quite a fun read. Part a critique on the depressing reality of a housewife's life in the 80s, part a reflection on humanity through the bulging eyes of a tall frog humanoid, and part totally off the rails eventually with all of the melodrama.</p><p>This book does what it says on the tin. Or does it? David Brent 📚<p>Started The Swallows by Lisa Lutz, and I'm already 20% into it and liking it so far. It's like an anti-Dead Poets Society, but where DPS kind of ignored private school cliques, - all the students seemed to mostly get along - Lutz leans in hard and it's far more interesting (don't get me wrong: I ❤️ Dead Poets Society). Kolya's Wonderarium<p>Well, Ghostmaker does a lot to flesh out the first and only in a way that most of The Hero of The Imperium books neglect and they are an amusing cast of characters. The Ravenguard dropped the ball when they didnt use Tanith as a recruiting world. I like how Rawne keeps trying to kill Gaunt and Gaunt keeps saving his life. Kolya's Wonderarium<p>My favorite part of the Cain books is that they are edited by his widow. Amberley writes notes in the margins and she has a lot to say about Jenet Sulla. She thinks it is funny that Sulla took Cain at face value, but she often adds chapters from Sulla's autobiography. Introducing such a chapter at one point she says "applies her considerable martial talent against the Gothic language." Kolya's Wonderarium<p>Even in a book like Savage Scars where actually all they do is win because they are the best, what actually happens is that they use time travel to duplicate themselves and the two survivors of the pact with the Eldar/Time Clone strategy just wander off into the webway assured that no one will ever hear their sagas. Like, they cant go home, they cant tell the other version of themselves.
