Good morning. 🐢🐢🐢

10 April 2025

Yesterday, I put a cover over our pergola, and I can already tell I won’t be taking it on and off throughout the year. I plan to remove it when winter returns—or perhaps sooner if a hurricane decides to make its way here this season. I’m feeling pretty proud of myself for crossing off two items from my ever-growing 'do tomorrow' list. Spring is such a wonderful time of year and my absolute favorite—it’s not too cold, not too hot. If it were a bed, it’d be the one Baby Bear finds just right. The grass is green and thriving, butterflies flutter about, and flowers are in full bloom. 'The hills are alive with the sound of music,' 🎶 or at least they would be...if we had hills.

"Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!" - Sitting Bull

The Crossing

This image reminded me of Emanuel Leutze's 1851 painting, 'Washington Crossing the Delaware.' However, this scene takes place on the Red River, not the Delaware. The figure perched on the edge of a log is a great egret (Ardea alba), which, in my imagination, strikingly resembles someone standing magnificently at the bow of a boat. Accompanying this grand figure is a crew of three turtles toiling behind.

Step into my photo gallery, where the elegance of nature comes alive with a majestic great egret and its loyal crew of turtles navigating a peaceful river.
