Lea<a href="https://sunny.garden/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#AskFedi</a> Hi Fedizens, I'd like your opinion, especially those (very few) of you who don't or would prefer not to use a smartphone.I'm trying to decide between getting a smartphone with CalyxOS (de-googled Android) vs. a nice feature phone from Sunbeam (sunbeamwireless.com)Currently I use a basic feature/flip phone but there are a few things it doesn't have that I would like: navigation, weather & radar (we get lots of severe weather here), and easier text input.Sunbeam has come to the rescue in this area. They offer flip phones that do have those features (for those who want them). So I'm leaning toward this. The only thing missing is secure messaging, though I rarely communicate by texts. You can't install any smartphone apps on them. No Signal. No web browser. And of course no Google stuff (important). It can be used as a hotspot if needed, though. I'm only considering a smartphone because I've been feeling more and more pressure to get one. Most businesses want you to install their app or they send texts with links they expect you to open in your phone's browser.
