I'm a 17 year old trans boy living in California, my school forced me out of the closet my sophomore year of high school and since then my home life has just gotten worse. My father won't accept me for being trans and since then I've been denied basic needs, including food and health care. I'm getting kicked out after my graduation in June (3 months at the time of posting this - I forget may is a month... oops...) <br><br>I can't get a job till I'm 18 because of the simple fact, my parent's won't sign off on it. I need to be able to get necessities, food and health care for myself and until then I'll have to survive this way...<br><br>My mothers home is extremely unsafe, there is no food in the home and an insane hoarding problem. (Including but not limited to hoarding animals, dead animals (Not taxidermy, I mean legit dead animals...), trash, drugs, alcohol, etc.). And my father often times leaves me (17) at home to babysit my siblings for weeks on end. (17, 16 and 5.) I can't drive as my parents won't let me, neither parent will buy me clothes either. This year, the community garden’s board chair said the volunteer-run farm expects more people to need the food they grow.</p><p>"'Every year we try to outdo ourselves,' said Christina Proctor, the chair of the board for Friends of Shiloh Garden, the nonprofit that operates the community garden. 'We always anticipate making more than we did the last year. But recent cuts are affecting children greatly. The commission opted out of the program when the state Legislature didn’t move to allocate the money needed to get the program up and running on Monday.</p><p>"Denton residents learned this week that Lovepacs Denton, a nonprofit that gives food to Denton ISD students to get them through school breaks and long weekends, will close after the school year ends in May.</p><p>"<a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Austerity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Austerity</span></a> is impacting state and local assistance services all at once. Celia Cole, the CEO of Feeding Texas, said that cuts to programs like this not only put more Texans at risk for hunger, but they also reduce stimulus spending that benefits the state’s farms. Feeding Texas is a network of 20 food banks that feed hungry Texans and advocates for policies that prevent hunger. Cole said the Summer EBT funding could have fed Texas children and teenagers last year.</p><p>"'The first opportunity that Texas had to run the program would have been in summer of 2024, and we missed out on it because, I think really more than anything, was that Texas Health and Human Services Commission ... had so much else on their plate with <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/Medicaid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Medicaid</span></a> unwinding,' Cole said. 'They were facing really serious backlogs and getting people enrolled in Medicaid.'</p><p>"Then, as the deadline for summer of 2025 got nearer, Cole said, it became clear that the commission would need money from the state to administer the program. Monday was the deadline for the Legislature to allocate the funds. Cole said programs like Feeding Texas will have to stretch their resources and be strategic with funding and food.</p><p>"For Denton nonprofits, leaders are preparing to do the same. The Friends of Shiloh Garden is keeping close tabs on costs. Proctor said seeds aren’t as costly as donors might think, but over the last two summers, water costs have soared.</p><p>"'Our biggest expense in production is water,' she said. 'We’ve been very blessed that Denton Bible Church has been helping us subsidize our water bill by giving us some money to help offset that cost.'</p><p>"In 2023, when Denton saw about 55 days of triple-digit heat, Proctor said water costs were almost too much.</p><p>"'That was the year we almost had too close because it was just so expensive,' Proctor said. 'Our water bills that year were just ridiculous.'</p><p>"The operation installed drip irrigation and weed cloth to cover the drip lines and saw savings. My name is Kaz, i'm a 17 year old trans teenager living in the hell of California in an unsafe environment. I'm getting kicked out of the house in June (2 months from now) and I need any possible help I can to afford food and other basic necessities.<br><br>I won't be able to get a job till 18 due to needing parental permission, but thankfully i'm 18 in August! <br><br>For now tho, food at both homes (My mothers and fathers) is pretty unstable and I'm unable to get the necessities I need, including medications. I do not have safe access to any sorts of food banks either. My mother spends all her money on animals, junk (She's a hoarder), cigarettes and alcohol. My father on the other hand, he denies me access to my own medical care often, denies me access to food as punishments, etc. <br><br>I'm needing some more money for some clothes again as I currently only have two pairs of jeans, a falling apart pair of shoes, some shirts (I'm good on shirts don't worry! :floof_Heart:) and I'm covered on jackets as I've stolen some of my boyfriends :floof_Teehee: (It's been raining here tho at least summer is coming up!)<br><br>I need to be able to support myself and my younger siblings (15) and occasionally my 5 year old brother. There's 7 people living in my home and my parents often go on cruises and don't leave enough food or necessities. The cruises go up to 2 weeks. It happens to us. As crops start failing, and they will, there will be spikes in prices and ultimately famines due to populations not served. When people aren't getting what they need, they don't sit passively by. There will be unrest. It will get ugly fast. We can plan for some shortfalls if they happen intermittently. But as they become more the norm, that's a big problem. </p><p>Our oligarchs imagine that they personally will always have the most money, so first access to things that run short. And they're comfortable with large numbers of others suffering and dying . So we shouldn't get too complacent and assume that things will somehow work out. That isn't the plan they have.</p><p>We need to restore democracy and federal institutions that operate in the best interest of the people. And we need to focus on stopping climate change, by seriously retooling the parts of our economy that are egging it on. The oligarchs see climate change as a business opportunity, a chance to sell to desperate people at jacked up prices.
