Peter J Fullagar 🌈Really enjoyed being at the launch of The Guide to LGBTQ+ Research at ARU in Cambridge this evening.Seeing Professor Catherine Lee MBE and Dr Adam Brett speaking of their experiences that led them to this. And yes, the book Pretended by Professor Lee, and the book Pride & Progress by Dr Brett and Jo Brassington are excellent.It particularly struck me that the LGBTQ+ research community is vibrant, collaborative and supportive.I don’t classify myself as a researcher, but the vibrant community is very attractive. This is what we need in <a href="https://social.vivaldi.net/tags/ELT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#ELT</a> for queer ELT professionals. Where do we fit in? Organisations that pay lip service to our identities, or shoehorned in with other (equally as important) marginalised identities within the industry no longer cut it for me. We need a dedicated space for the queer ELT community and allies - and all the intersectional identities that encompass the queer ELT community.This is why I started I am not a taboo! - in the hope that we can build such a community. It’s early stages, but I’m not going to give up. Beginning with blog posts of experience, I hope to widen whatever it becomes.
