Reilly Spitzfaden (they/them)<p>I'm continuing my databending series of blog posts. hellocatfood<p>I thiiiiink this one was run through a compressor. Or maybe not. Either way, I like it but it's a bit mushy. Kinda just like turning up the saturation in a video editor.</p><p><a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/glitchart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glitchart</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/databending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>databending</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/videosynthesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videosynthesis</span></a></p>
hellocatfood<p>This one is run through a bit crushing plugin. I'm finding the best results are when I use plugins that dramatically alter a sound or have some sort of LFO.</p><p>Other effects like amplifiers or saturators just tend to make things mushy or, um, oversaturated.</p><p><a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/videosynthesis" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videosynthesis</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/glitchart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>glitchart</span></a> <a href="https://post.lurk.org/tags/databending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>databending</span></a></p>
Doctor M. Popular<p>If you've ever wondered how to create your own glitch art, I wrote this primer on how to alter images with a text editor. It's an older post, but I just updated it and checked all the old links. Let me know if you see anything that needs updating. <a href="https://docpop.org/2014/01/a-glitch-primer-editing-image-files-with-text-editors/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">docpop.org/2014/01/a-glitch-pr</span><span class="invisible">imer-editing-image-files-with-text-editors/</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/GlitchArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GlitchArt</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/databending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>databending</span></a></p>
Phracker<p>Glitch Urbexia</p><p>This is based on a variation of databending that I call cosine bending. This involves manipulating the parameters of the discrete cosine transform algorithm used to perform lossy compression on a JPEG image. This may sound rather advanced and convoluted, but it really just means saving a JPEG at a very low quality to produce glitch effects. I did that with one of my old urbex photos, and then I messed with the colors in GIMP and applied some pixel sorting to get the image shown here. 😗 </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Glitch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Glitch</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GlitchArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GlitchArt</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Urbex" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Urbex</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DataBending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DataBending</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Databent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Databent</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Psychedelic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Psychedelic</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/PsychedelicArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PsychedelicArt</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Trippy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trippy</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Photomanipulation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Photomanipulation</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/GIMP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GIMP</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Gradient" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gradient</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DigitalArt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalArt</span></a></p>
