As the #NIH slashes funding for research into #Alzheimer's, #cancer, #COVID & #diseases that inflict pain & suffering, I'm heartbroken & furious. #Early-onset Alzheimer's took my father away from me &, more importantly, himself. Why would anyone in their right mind (right, the mind of the #fascist is almost incomprehensible) do such a thing? If nothing else, a selfish viewpt. says this is idiocy. These cuts are meant to bring us to our knees. Let's resist (& sue them into oblivion).

These are some #NIH grants that have been canceled. Pediatric research? #Alzheimer's? #Covid? Pregnancy & assault? If anyone thinks they aren't affected by #RFK's idiocy, they are living in Lala land.

In this link, researchers describe the work, its benefits, & the impact of its termination. Read it & weep & then write, call, vote, protest -- but don't back down! If anyone thinks it's happening to "them" & not you, think again.

#Cortez-Masto asked #CoryBooker re: these HHS cuts. Acc. to the #Alzheimer's Association, "Bipartisan Alzheimer’s programs like the Building Our Largest Dementia (BOLD) Infrastructure are now at risk due to a reduction in staff & resources. BOLD strengthens Alzheimer’s public health efforts, such as increasing early detection & diagnosis, reducing risk & supporting #caregivers. Congress reauthorized BOLD last year w/unanimous support."

Defend BOLD here.

There are many caveats (sample size, for ex) but this is very good: "Everyone in this study was destined to develop #Alzheimer’s disease and some of them haven’t yet,” said senior author Randall J. Bateman, a prof of neurology at WashU Medicine, in a statement from the university. “We don’t yet know how long they will remain symptom-free—maybe a few years or maybe decades.”

Hands off the #NIH!

This Wednesday at 2pm ET/11 am PT, I'm honored to be leading the inaugural monthly support group -- "Keeping each other Company: #Caregiving and #Grief" -- for #HFC, an extaordinary foundation established by #LaurenMillerRogen & #SethRogen in honor of Lauren's mother Adele who died of early-onset #Alzheimer's. Please join me -- it's on Zoom -- if you are looking for a space to share your feelings, tell your story, or just want to listen to others.
